VAL McDERMID WINS DIAMOND DAGGER

Val McDermid wins the CWA Cartier Diamond Dagger.

The photograph shows Val signing her latest book for me at the 1st Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival. Here was another crime fiction writer able to charm an audience and keep them fascinated for over an hour with her anecdotes.

I had two of her books on my TBR, but my son thought they looked good so I will have to wait until he brings them back home :D

Last time he borrowed four Ann Cleeves novels.

A deserved award for a writer who has produced consistently good and varied novels over a long period of time. (I am glad she seems to be veering away from the more explicitly torture/violence themes she was exploring a few years ago)

I still have the signed copy of Fever of the Bone to read possibly for the alphabet meme. I had not read her for ages because she was a bit brutal in print, but turned out to be absolutely charming in person.
